Finding a Fast VPN – Features and Reviews
Posted by admin on Dec 22, 2011 in Software to Unblock Sites, VPN Services | Comments Off
The problem with rating a fast VPN, is that there are a lot of variable that affect how a VPN performs.

+ Which country you’re in
+ Which service you use
+ Which server you connect to
+ How many other users are connected to the same server
+ What operating system you use
+ Are you using a phone, computer, or VPN router?
+ The brand of phone, computer, or VPN router
+ What you are doing online
+ Your ISP
+ Other software/apps running at the same time
+ Various other bugs
As you can see, a lot can affect the performance of a VPN. Some users say that using a VPN can slow the speed of your connection. After all, when you’re using OpenVPN, you’ve got to encrypt and decrypt using keys, pass certificate inspections, and tunnel your information not only through your ISP, but also possibly to a completely different country where the VPN server is located. It’s obvious to see that there is a possibility to run into some speed issues.
However, most VPN services say that the difference is negligible. It’s been my own experience that I’ve experience just as many ‘slow connection problems’ not connected to the VPN as when I’m connected, so I think a VPN affecting your connection speed may just be a placebo effect. Either way, most people say that PPTP is going to be the fastest, but least secure VPN protocol, while OpenVPN would be the opposite – the most secure, but you may sacrifice speed.
Another trick to make sure your VPN is running at full speed is to connect to a VPN server near you. Most VPN services, though adding that the difference is negligible, do admit that your distance from the VPN server you’re connected to can have an affect on your connection. If you’re choosing a specific server to get an IP address from that location, you may not have a choice. However, if general privacy is your goal and you have no IP-location requirements, you can try this.
When you sign up for a VPN service, you can also make sure that they allow for free server switching. Being able to float from server to server as you please will give you the freedom to choice. Even if there is no real difference between server reliability and speed, at least you’ll feel better.

Fast VPN Services
……….
As for suggesting a fast VPN service, I can only recommend some providers based on my personal experiences. I travel quite a bit, and have used several difference VPN services over the years. I’ve also written numerous reviews and based on trial periods from quite a few VPN providers. While I’m not an expert, per se, I do have more experience than the average user. Here are my picks for fastest VPN.

#1 Hide My Ass
Ok, so sometimes speed is relative and all that I mentioned above, but HMA has a few unique features that can guarantee that you get the fastest connection speed possible. Most obviously, they have the greatest number of IP addresses, VPN servers, and country locations available – 10x more than the next guy. This choice alone means that you can bounce around from server to server until you find something that works well for you. Don’t like the idea of manually searching? HMA can also organize VPN servers according to speed and number of other users signed in, so you can sort them like this and find the least occupied VPN server to sign into. Just over $6 per month is an awesome price, so it’s obvious why they’re number one.

#2 IPVanish
Though my initial testing of IPVanish didn’t go so well (I was in China), when I returned to the USA, I was very impressed with the speed of IPVanish’s servers. So much so, that despite a rocky start, I’m naming it my #2 fast VPN service. If you’re worried that you might not get the same results, no worries, there’s a money back guarantee.
IPVanish has actually doubled their network size, both in server number and in the number of countries represented within the last year (2012), which is no small feat. They’ve updated their Windows software, introduced their Mac software, and are working on iOS & Android at the moment. These guys know how to get things done! Click the link below to see more about their full pricing structure; Oh yeah, and all packages come with unlimited bandwidth and free server switching.

#3 12VPN
This is a solid VPN service located in Hong Kong. Fast, reliable, and friendly is what anyone should require from a VPN service, and this is what they offer. US ($79 per year) and World ($119) VPN packages available, with a wide variety of VPN protocols for a wider variety of devices that most devices. There are various encryption upgrade and VPN routing options, so if you have some very specific VPN needs, and that most other services can’t handle, 12VPN is your ‘go-to-guy’.
